Background Information:

UbcH6 is a class I E2 ubiquitin–conjugating enzyme within the ubiquitin–proteasome system (UPS). Like other E2 enzymes, UbcH6 functions downstream of E1 (ubiquitin-activating enzyme) and upstream of E3 ubiquitin ligases, mediating the covalent transfer of ubiquitin to specific protein substrates. Altered expression or activity of UbcH6 has been observed in several cancers, where it may influence cell proliferation and stress response pathways through ubiquitination of tumor-suppressive or oncogenic substrates.
